My first video tutorial!

by Sarah on February 21, 2010

in 3D Projects, Design Team stuff, Videos

Hopefully it will be the first of many, but if the extended hair-pulling, teeth-gnashing, software-swapping, massive learning-curve(ing) experience that was my day today is anything to go by, I’m not sure that I can promise anything at this stage!

It is way past the time that I prefer to be long asleep these days, but having spent pretty much all day – most of it in pyjamas – trying first to start up and use the most frustrating piece of computer software I have ever known (I had higher hopes for you Adobe…), then finding what seems at this stage to be a much better editing option (yay for you, Sony!), then spending the rest of the day nutting out exactly how to edit the footage that I recorded yesterday, there is no way on God’s green earth that I’m going to end this day before I have  shared the fruits of my extremely laborious labour.

So here it is – my first attempt at a video tutorial.

Please excuse the various part of the video where it appears that I have lost the ability to speak English.  I’m sure I will get used to chatting to a camera that is hovering above my right ear if I do it a bit more often.

Oh, and please also excuse my head that keeps popping into the frame at the bottom left.  You’re just lucky it’s out of focus, or you’d be subjected to the patch of grey hairs that I have right there.

Ok, I’ll shut up now (can you tell I’m a bit nervous…..?!)

I don’t currently have the capacity to upload in HD, so apologies for the quality being not so great.  It’s another thing I hope to rectify if indeed I am able to make some more tutorial videos.

Right, I’m done!

Thanks for visiting (and watching if you hung around for the show!)  I’d love to hear any feedback that you might have on my first video effort :)

As Delys said…WOWSERS!!!!!!!

Your first video tutorial is amazing Sarah. Watched it right through (Music – Kevin McLeod…just so you believe me)…and WOW. Your picture is clear and you stayed in frame, you had everything on hand and easy to get, you spoke clearly, I loved your little subtitles from time to time….the underneath bit indeed ;-) .

I think you rocked it. I think you are just trying to mess with us re: your software problems…fess up..it took you 5 minutes to put it together, didn’t it? I’ve tried to make a video (not stamping related) using iMovie…and I may as well have been attempting to learn Cantonese, from scratch, in a day! It took FOREVAH and wasn’t half as seamless as yours.

I give you ten out of ten. You showed that software who’s boss!

:-)
Sam.

As for the idea, BRILLIANT!!! :) I’m thinking is it possible to get some of those bandy things to demo tomorrow at my first stamp club night for the year, the theme is flowers and it would fit perfectly!!!

Is there nothing you can’t do, fabulous Sair? The headband is sooo cute (& did I mention brill idea too), but to have a video showing how you did it was awesome. I think you did fabulously…& using ‘daggy’ just made it very cute. Computer issues aside, would love to see you on camera again. Hugs, Di
PS: Sophie indeed made a gorgeous model.

Well done Sair!! I think she nailed it – that actor girlie sounded just like you! (And I liked Tiffany’s cameo too.)

Very cute project – a goer for the fete?

Your tutorial was excellent. The instructions were very clear and are easy to follow. All I need to do now is make a headband for my girls. I am also sure that everyone will appreciate the time and effort you put in to make these tutorials. :)

You did GREAT, Sarah!! Fabulous editing (really, it was all worth it!), love the little subtitles, and it was all very polished, yet natural. Lovely to hear your voice (I had imagined you sounding different, LOL). I look forward to many more entertaining, and informative, tutorials!! Christine :)

Hi Sarah,
you did a wonderful job with your first video – I don’t remember seeing your head once ;) The project is a brilliant idea too – I know my Miss 5 strips any covering off any headband she gets her hands on and now I do something to reverse the process! Loved the flower embellisment at the end too – will try that for sure.

Great video Sarah! The music so fits with what vibes I get of you from your blog and blog header etc, and I loved the fast forward bit, the online text and the natural but real way that you presented such a fabulous head piece for your daughter to be so proud wearing! Can’t wait to see what else you come up with! TFS

Sarah-I think you did a wonderful job! It was entertaining (music, fast forward and annotations) and informative-great project too! You performed like a pro and made it look easy! (If my first video is half as good as yours, I’ll be thrilled!)

I agree with so many of the above comments Sarah and I’m sure that having received such positive feedback and having a (detached if possible) look at the tutorial again you might see that it’s perfectly fine. It was clear, very easy to follow and the little fun bits were….fun. The fast forwarded bit through the winding on of ribbon was a real plus and great that the program gives you that option. I hope you do some more. Do tutorials always stay on people’s blogs? Is that apostrophe in the right place? Is that how you spell apostrophe??? :( xxx

Hi Sarah! Just had a quick catch-up of your blog and loved the video. I’m now trying to decide exactly how inappropriate it would be to make Benny start wearing pretty headbands… :) There are so many ways those flowers could be incorporated into a little girl’s wardrobe – I’m thinking little brooches to embellish bonds singlets or winter beanies. You did really well with the video and should be very proud of it! xo
