Kristina’s colour inspiration #9!

Last week I was so busy with workshop preparation and working on an upcoming class project that I didn’t get the opportunity to participate in Kristina’s colour inspiration #8.  Having watched the festivities for a while, then finally participating in one, it gets kind of addictive (just ask Sam who is now rustling up THREE cards per challenge – each completely different than the others, but all equally gorgeous!)

Well I was determined to participate this week, and then I saw the colours:

So many bright colours, and so VERY different than what I would normally do, but a challenge is just that – a challenge, so I grabbed it by the horns and jumped right in!

…and here is my offering.  I thought that the little boat from Nursery Necessities would cope ok with the bright colours, so I started with that and my markers, trying out different combinations of the colours until I was happy (although I always used red for the flag!)

Then I decided that I would stamp it again and cut the pieces out to mount up on dimensionals, so I did.  I mounted the stamped piece onto Tempting Turquoise, but then I thought it looked a bit plain, so I hand drew a line using the thin end of my Tempting Turquoise marker around the edge of the white.  This is probably better done before you have gone to the trouble of colouring and stamping and cutting and mounting, but thankfully my line didn’t go too wonky!

For the So Saffron element, I decided to make use of the fabulous Palette ‘o Prints sampler pad that is on promotion this month, so I chose a nice bold spotty piece from among the patterned offerings.  This is mounted onto a slightly larger piece of So Saffron.

I layered a strip of Tempting Turquoise grosgrain onto a strip of the wider Old Olive version just to bring those two colours into it a bit more.  The sentiment is a combination of the WELCOME stamp from my newly (and individually!) mounted So Many Sayings set, and the ‘baby’ from the ‘welcome baby’ stamp out of Short and Sweet.

To bring in a bit more red and to balance the red that the sentiment is stamped in, I added three Real Red brads above the ribbon and I was done!

I am quite happy with the result given that I would never have come up with this combination on my own, so thanks again Kristina for your inspiration!

Here it is again from some different angles…

LOOOOVE this! So sweet, but cheery colors on a baby card. I always like the non-traditional colors for baby items and I would buy this card if I saw it in a shop somewhere! Great job!!
