MDS Monday - Blending with Digital Stamps

A couple of months ago, I posted a peek of an MDS stamped image that I had coloured with Blendabilities.

What a fabulous discovery to make!

It widened the possibilities of my Blendabilities colouring options by a massive percentage and came to my rescue just a few weeks ago.

My sweet niece and Goddaughter made her First Holy Communion at the end of last month, and with a dire shortage of appropriate stamp images, I hit up MDS for the solution.

I was able to search for, locate, purchase and download a set of suitable images all within a three minute time frame and for the royal total of $2.50.

And here's what resulted...

MDS download: Crosses of Hope Stamps: Hardwood, And Many More Paper: Naturals White, Soft Suede, Crumb Cake, Whisper White Ink: Soft Suede, Memento Tuxedo Black Accessories: Label Card Thinlits Die; Blendabilities: Daffodil Delight, Calypso Coral, Old Olive, Coastal Cabana; Pearl Basic Jewels, Stampin' Sponges, Stampin' Dimensionals

MDS download: Crosses of Hope Stamps: Hardwood, And Many More Paper: Naturals White, Soft Suede, Crumb Cake, Whisper White Ink: Soft Suede, Memento Tuxedo Black Accessories: Label Card Thinlits Die; Blendabilities: Daffodil Delight, Calypso Coral, Old Olive, Coastal Cabana; Pearl Basic Jewels, Stampin' Sponges, Stampin' Dimensionals

The beauty of digital stamps is that they can be resized, so this one is more than double its original size, enabling me to make it a real feature.

The colour combination was dictated by the extent of Blendabilities that I had available to me at the time. I have since purchased further sets and am on my way to owning the whole shebang, but for the stained glass like result that I was aiming for, the colours that I had did the job beautifully.

The greeting was able to be added neatly with the help of the perfectly shaped banner Thinlit from the Label Card set. The "For You" is part of a larger greeting "Here For You" from the And Many More stamp set, but with some careful aiming, I was able to eliminate the word I didn't want and the remaining ones that I did want fit neatly inside the banner.

Check out the options that MDS can afford you with regard to colouring - you might find a whole new world of possibilities like I did!

You can trial MDS free for 30 days, or invest just $24.95 and it's yours to keep. It comes pre-installed with a bunch of content and there are new downloads available every month. Sweet!

Thanks for popping in and for your patience as I adjust to the new routine that I have now that I have added the realm of postgraduate study to my life as mentioned in my previous post. It's a juggle for sure, and some days it feels like all the balls that I'm trying so hard to keep in the air are falling down all around me, but nothing worth doing is ever smooth sailing all of the time, right?!!

MDS Monday - 'Frozen' inspired card for a birthday girl

stella frozen card close.jpg

I quite like the idea of providing weekly digital inspiration on a Monday, so here's the second installment of MDS Monday, this week brought to you by my current favourite Disney animation...

My small girl had a birthday party to attend a couple of weeks ago, the theme of which - not unlike probably most seven year old girl parties around at the moment - was Frozen.

A distinct lack of snowflake and/or winter themed items in my crafting arsenal, owing mostly to the fact that snow is never a feature of our climate over here in Perth and I pretty much steadfastly refuse to feature a winter theme in my Christmas crafting (think swimming and salads at Christmas time over snowflakes and sweaters!) and I was fresh out of options...

Enter MDS, along with its myriad options for all things winterish and snowflakey and I was all sorted in no time!

MDS: Watercolored Winter Kit, Daily December Memories Kit, Season by Season Kit, Season of Cheer Stamp Brush Set, Basic Black Texture Stamp Paper: Pool Party, Whisper White Accessories: Soft Sky Seam Binding, Vintage Faceted Buttons, Whisper White Baker's Twine, Silver Glimmer Paper

I started with a couple of background papers that I loved from Watercolored Winter, added an overlay stamp pattern from the same kit, and another to add a sponged look around the edges, then went in search of some snowflakes.

I simply typed 'snowflake' into the global search tool (look for the magnifying glass in the bottom right of the program) and was offered such a vast array of options, I hardly knew where to start!

I chose a few patterns that I liked and popped them on my page, dropping some shadows here and there and moving them around until I was happy with the layout.

Here's what it looked like in MDS before I printed it and worked some hybrid magic...

I printed it onto Whisper White cardstock and cut it out leaving a small border around the edge, which saved adding an extra layer of cardstock between the printed panel and the base card.

Some Seam Binding tied in a bow, a faceted button and a sparkly number 7 finished the look.

MDS has got me out of a crafting bind on more than one occasion when my 'real life' stamps didn't fit the bill, and the ability to combine digitally designed, printed images with traditional card making in a hybrid project makes for one happy crafter.

I encourage you to check out MDS for your own crafting needs if you haven't already - with a free trial allowing you to dip your toes for 30 days, and the full software setting you back just $24.95, it's well worth the investment.
