A happy hot air balloon birthday!

We had a sweet birthday party to attend on the weekend - my handsome man's cousin's little girl turned one and she had a gorgeous party with hot air balloons as the theme.

I was so excited to create a card for her, as I have not really put my Celebrate Today bundle through its paces since I got it several months ago, and it was perfect for the theme.

I took inspiration from the To You & Yours Shaker Cards Kit in the Holiday Catalogue, having played with them in recent times and loving the jangly, sparkly, shakiness of them!

Another thing I loved about the card is how I actually created it a whole week in advance of needing it, which is unheard of for me. Sadly, I didn't photograph it until the morning of the party, and the light wasn't playing nice, so I couldn't manage to get a decent photo to show the watercolour-y, pastel-ish, cloudy background as well as I would have liked.

Thanks for popping in today - hope your part of the world is as sunshiny as mine!

A bunch of {Celebrate Today} balloons!

My littlest little lady went to an ice-skating party for one of her sweet school friends on the weekend. Ice skating isn't really a standard go-to winter sport for us here in Western Australia, so it was only the second time she'd ever had a go at it in her almost nine years. There were a few zimmer frames on offer for the unsteady to hold onto/push in front as they wobbled around the ice, so it was a whole lot hilarious watching my girl channeling her inner 95 year old as she tottered on her seemingly elasticated ankles on her way around the rink.

It was also one of the coldest days of our current winter to date, so far from being a place to escape from the conditions, it was like walking out of the fridge and into the freezer. I had half a thought to strap on some skates myself, thinking that at least a bit of motion might generate some warmth and distract me from the fact that I could no longer feel my toes. Witnessing some spectacular crashes and falls from the sidelines soon pushed that thought right out of my mind, however. I had no desire to add the cheeks of my bottom to the list of my frozen body parts,  so I settled in with a warm drink and somehow managed to wrangle a good hour-long sleepy snuggle with the five month old brother of the birthday girl, which warmed me from the inside out...

Here's the card that I made!

I only recently purchased the Celebrate Today Bundle that debuted in the last Occasions Catalogue. I'm a bit slow on the uptake, clearly - what a fun set! So versatile and suitable for a variety of occasions. I'm looking forward to putting it to loads more use...

Which products did you skip over at first, only to discover how much you loved them waaaaay after everyone else did..?!
