A special Oh So Eclectic birthday card!

There comes a point towards the end of every catalogue year where I look at the photos in my ‘to blog’ folder in fear that I have more cards to share than blogging days left before the outgoing catalogue retires and the new one is released.

Welcome to that time in the life of the 2018-2019 catalogue!

Today’s card was for a milestone birthday of a colleague last month, and as her birthday buddy in our work team, it was my job to put on a morning tea, give her a gift and have everyone in the team sign the card. I employed a number of my favourite techniques for this one, as well as one of my favourite (sadly retiring) product combinations, the Oh So Eclectic stamp set and coordinating Eclectic Layers Thinlits.

oh so eclectic patricia 60.jpg
oh so eclectic patricia 60.1.jpg

You may be able to detect the merest hint of a watercolour wash in the background, and the solid flowers behind the more delicate die cut ones are also watercoloured to provide a graduation of coordinating colour.

Some splattery gold embossing adds some shine and stamped off numbers from the Make a Difference stamp set allude to the occasion.

A bit of dry embossing using the leaf die from the Thinlit set adds further background texture, and some striped washi tape is just the contrast I felt was needed. (Confession time: I have no idea where the striped washi tape came from! I "think* it might be from an old Project Life Accessory Kit that I had floating around, but for current, albeit soon to be retired Black and White washi, check out the Pick a Pattern pack :-))

Add in a greeting from the gorgeous (and thankfully carrying over!) Well Said bundle, and I was very happy with where this card landed. I’m pleased to report that the birthday girl loved it too.

Here’s a closer look at some of the detail (click for larger images)…

I also incorporated some of the same items that I used to make the card into some cupcake toppers for morning tea, and made a HUGE cardstock flower to brighten up the gift bag. Please excuse the hurriedly snapped phone photos and school staff room background…!

The colour inspiration came from the scarf that I bought as the gift - a gorgeous Anna Chandler design featuring rich reds and pinks with black and white contrasts and touches of gold. I love using gifts as inspiration for the cards that go with them, do you do that too?

The Last Chance List rolls on, taking with it SO many gorgeous products that won’t be available when the new catalogue starts on June 4th! Make sure you get everything you love before it’s gone!

Last chance list- grab these retiring products while you can!

The Last Chance list is out, and as is always the case, it’s a bittersweet time! It’s a goodbye to some favourites to make way for new favourites when the new Annual Catalogue is released in June.

As is ALSO always the case, these retiring items are available only on a ‘while stocks last’ basis, so if anything that you love and don’t yet own is on there, I would suggest you act quickly.

A clarification regarding retiring stamp sets

The list looks ENORMOUS! That’s because it includes stamp sets that are transitioning over to the new Cling stamp style. These stamp sets are retiring in clear mount and wood mount format, but will be available as the new and improved Cling stamp style in the new catalogue.

In a further clarification, some Bundles are listed as retiring also, but their components will be carrying over to the new catalogue as separately available items, also in the new Cling style. The benefit of grabbing these now is that you will do so at the 10% discount that bundles offer. Going forward, the bundle components will be available at their full price only.

These are the bundles to look out for on the retiring list:

If you are unsure of anything regarding the Last Chance List, please don’t hesitate to reach out and ask! I will be happy to try and clarify whatever I can regarding retiring/not retiring/stamp style transition/bundles etc.

The important thing is that you seek clarification as soon as possible to avoid missing out altogether!

Dear Doily and the final Sale-a-bration hurrah!

It’s the final day of Sale-a-bration and the final card that I’m sharing from my recent play session with the Dear Doily bundle

doily crumb cake.jpg

I’m a huge fan of stamping in white ink on Crumb Cake cardstock, particularly with intricate and finely carved images like the ones in the Dear Doily Stamp set. That’s exactly where I started with this card, not knowing where I would end, but knowing that the White/Crumb Cake combo was the look I was going for.

As it turns out, I decided that adding anything too fussy would detract from the stamped background. A simply stamped greeting on my current favourite colour (I’m looking at you, Petal Pink!) plus some neutral embellishments (hello, Linen Thread and the FINAL DAY of Butterfly Elements!), plus a sweet little die cut doily, and I was happy to call it done.

doily crumb cake detail.jpg

Do you have a current favourite colour combo? Does it stay fairly constant, or does it change frequently? Crumb Cake is always fairly constant for me, but my love for Petal Pink, I will admit, took me by surprise a bit! Maybe it’s because it’s like a watered down version of Calypso Coral, which has always been high on my list *grin*

Please make sure you don’t miss out on any of your Sale-a-bration or Sale-a-bration co-ordination loves! It’s the final hours and regret is a terrible thing! Perhaps head over to my online store to make sure you have everything you need before the bonuses are finished!

PS. In setting up the product list below to show you all the products that went into this project, I discovered to my abject horror and extensive embarrassment that I used a retired circle punch! The 1-3/8” Circle Punch has been a staple of my stamping arsenal since the very first order that I placed almost 13 years ago, but clearly I’m going to need to find a new staple (and start paying more attention!) #trustmeimaprofessional

Sale-a-bration - it gets better! Second release products available now!

If Sale-a-bration wasn’t already amazing enough, the newly available second round of freebies has landed, and it’s pretty amazing!

There’s a new stamp set, a new embossing folder and a bundle that features a coordinating stamp set and pack of Designer Series Paper that is SO beautiful.

Here’s a peek at the bundle…

With the popularity of this year’s FREE Sale-a-bration items (we’ve been advised that several products are exceeding forecasting and unlikely to last the distance until the end of the promotion, the latest of these being the Butterfly Elements), it’s a good idea to place your qualifying order asap so you don’t miss out on your fave freebies!

Smooshed butterfly beauty

We had a houseful of people over at our house on Saturday. Not that it takes much to fill our house, little old lady that she is. It was Australia Day, and as we have done in years past, we teamed up with our across the road neighbours and set up a massive slip’n’slide on the 50 metre long hill in ‘our’ park.

Once the sliding was done and the BBQ sausages were finished, as is often the way, my sister-in-law and her family remained for an impromptu takeaway pizza dinner and while the cousins gathered for a movie, she and I snuck off to my craft room.

Janny wanted to play with some ideas and learn how to create gorgeous watercolour backgrounds that are all the rage at the moment, so we did! She decided on the colour combination (Pool Party and Highland Heather for those of you playing along at home), and once the smooshed background was done, we played with different ideas and came up with this…

www.sarahklass.com | Smooshed Butterfly Beauty
www.sarahklass.com | Smooshed Butterfly Beauty

We added some silver splatters by mixing Multipurpose Liquid Glue with water, picking up the mixture with an Aquapainter and flicking it at the paper before sprinkling Silver Embossing Powder and melting it with a Heat Tool. It’s one of my favourite ways to add a little something to a card without overpowering anything else. Here’s a card I made last year using the same technique in gold.

A Vellum Stitched Rectangle provided a base for the Butterfly Element, and with a bit more silver in the form of Mini Sequin Trim and a swoosh of Highland Heather ribbon from the Organdy Ribbon Combo Pack, we were happy with the result of our combined effort!

The Butterfly Elements and Organdy Ribbon Combo Pack are both items that you can earn for FREE with a $90 order (or earn them both when you spend $180!) Don’t forget that the ribbons are super popular and running low on inventory, so make sure to claim yours before they run out!

We had so much fun playing around with ideas and working together without having a single plan or idea of where we would end up. I was texting Janny yesterday morning, because at the end of Saturday, we still had all the elements just sat together without actually being stuck down, so I had to send her a picture of the end result, plus ask her whether she preferred a base card of Pool Party or Highland Heather…

I loved her reply text:

I had fun playing in your craft room! Simple and sweet and a bit of fun with technique. I really want to dedicate more time to getting my craft on!

Those are certainly words that I can relate to, you…?!

Quickly, quickly...!

In case you’re not hanging out on my Instagram and Facebook pages, I thought it worth popping up a quick post to let you know some important Sale-a-bration and Occasions Catalogue news…

The Organdy Ribbon Combo Pack (item 149623) may be one of our most popular Sale-A-Bration items ever. It’s been so popular, in fact, that it has exceeded product forecasting. Stampin’ Up! have shipments coming in, but because this item has been in such high demand, it will most likely not last until the end of Sale-A-Bration.

Moral of the story… If you love this ribbon, you will want to make sure to get yours for free with your $90 order sooner rather than later…

In other exceedingly popular product news…

These two characters from the Occasions Catalogue have also been running hot and have exceeded product forecasting in much the same way. Inventory of these two punches is expected to be depleted in the next couple of weeks, after which time they will be switched to ‘unorderable’ in the ordering system until another shipment arrives in mid-March.

While I can confirm that these two fantastic punches are set to carry over into the next Annual Catalogue due out in June, that’s not going to help with all of your delightful butterfly and cake projects in February…!

Different story, same moral - act quickly to ensure that you don’t miss out on either of these…

24 hour sale!

On October 23rd (ie. tomorrow), for 24 hours only, Stampin' Up! is taking 15% off a select range of stamp sets. The beauty of being in the west at times like these is that we don't have to stay up until ridiculous o'clock to start taking advantage of sales the start at midnight on the east coast!

And an extra hooray for daylight savings!

Part of the fun for me at this stage is working off my relatively tiny phone screen to post this. Our internet has chosen a decidedly inconvenient time to crash and burn and the wait time to speak to someone at our ISP is an hour. I'm hoping that the formatting of this post is way better at your end than it currently looks at mine….!

Check out the list of stamp sets on sale to see if any of your wishlist coincides with the sale list, then head to my online store in a couple of hours to snaffle them while you can!

I'll come back and post a direct link to the sale section of my store when it's live too :-)

Designer Series Paper sale - Buy 3, get 1 FREE

Until the end of July (that is, for another 2.2 days), choose three packs of Designer Series Paper and get one pack FREE! With all new designs (as well as a favourite carryover pack!) in the recently released 2018-19 Annual Catalogue, there are loads of delightful options.

One of my recently acquired packs - Garden Impressions 6x6 DSP - was busted open with gusto recently, and with inspiration provided by these gorgeous cards by Jessica Williams at The Paper Caper, I created these same but different card designs

DSP birds.jpg

The one at the top left was the first design, and I think it's still my favourite out of all of them. Here's a bit of a closer look. How perfectly do all of these patterns lend themselves to the 'same but different' design?

You might notice the addition of coloured pearls and rhinestones and wonder how you missed these in the catalogue. The good news is that you didn't, they are the Pearl Basic Jewels and Rhinestone Basic Jewels coloured with Stampin' Blends.

How clever is that?

I can't take credit for the idea (but I also can't give credit for it, as I can't recall where I first saw it done...) Perhaps it's just a known fact that alcohol markers can change the colour of your embellishments and ribbons, let's go with that *grin*

With this offer only valid until the end of July, be quick with your paper selections so you don't miss out!

Last chance products - the retiring list is here!

The retiring list has been released, and in order to make way for all of the awesomeness that is coming at us with the release of the 2018-2019 Annual Catalogue in June, it's necessary that we say goodbye to some existing products.

As is always the case (with the exception of Flirty Flamingo, which is all at once retiring as an In-Color and immediately returning as part of the core colour collection!), the outgoing In-Colors are always in the firing line and tend to sell out quickly, so if you're in the market for a stock up of any of your faves, start HERE. As is ALSO always the case, once they're gone, they're gone...

With a colour revamp officially in the pipeline, it's also time to say goodbye to some of the core colours that will be retiring from the colour offering this year to make way for some fresh new (and returning In-Color! hues) too. So if you love any of these, now is the time to stock up on ink, cardstock and ink refills...

While you browse, you may also note that there are ink pads on the Last Chance List that aren't listed above as retiring colours. This is because the ink pad design is also having an exciting overhaul. As of the release of the new Annual Catalogue in June, all ink pads will be available in the new streamlined design, hence the sell off of existing ink pads in all colours.

As for stamps, bundles, accessories and everything else, click on the category headings below to browse and shop ALL of the retiring products. Something to keep in mind is that while some of the products that make up the bundles will be carrying over, they won't be bundled together in the new catalogue, so won't attract the 10% saving that currently exists on them...

There's a lot to take in, and further information about the colour revamp and fresh new ink pad design will follow soon, but for now, make sure to grab all of your outgoing favourites while you still have the opportunity.

They're available until May 31st, but only while stocks last!

Enjoyed this post? Make sure to...:

I already have plans for that gorgeous Basket Weave Embossing Folder (Easter basket, anyone...?!) and I'm a huge fan of anything textured and watercolour-ish, so Eclectic Expressions is on my to do list as well.

And I have seen some amazing creations with the Springtime Foils DSP too, so I have some serious creating in my future. It goes without saying that I pre-ordered them all, it was too difficult to choose a favourite, so I chose not to choose... *grin*

Make sure to visit each page and take in all the info - there are resources galore on all of the new products and promotions, so you might want to boil the kettle first :-)

Here you go...

I have a bit of a life update to share as well, but that's a story for another time (soon!), right now I have an email to send (are YOU subscribed..?) and some classes to spruik!

Welcome July, and BONUS DAYS!

Happy July to you! Winter has well and truly arrived in my little corner of the world today, only a month since it officially started, but with the temperature barely making it to double figures today, it has surely made its presence felt!

Some of you might remember the Bonus Days promotion from last year and many of you took part. Due to the wild success and popularity of the promotion, it's back again, so you have a brand new chance to earn August coupons with your July purchases!

With the brand new catalogue for 2017-2018 having been released just a month ago, it's the perfect time to grab some items from your new catalogue wishlist, then grab some more for FREE with your earned coupons next month.

How to take part...?

Simply place an order in my online store, and every $90 in your order total (before shipping) will qualify you for a $9 coupon to put towards purchases next month. There is no limit to the number of vouchers you can earn during the promotion, and the only requirement on your part is that you have an email address (this is how your vouchers are delivered!)

Even better...

If your order total is over $100, you will also qualify for my Stampin' Spoils gift for July, and if you hit $250 or more, then Stampin' Rewards are also yours for the taking!

Best of all...

If your wishlist is extreme (and let's face it, there is a LOT to love in this new catalogue!), then you're going to want to keep an eye out for my next post, coming up after this one, because there's a whole lot of reasons to take a closer look at the demonstrator opportunity this month too.

Stay tuned!

They're releasing the upcoming Occasions Catalogue to attending demonstrators and I'll be basking in the new catalogue glow with several hundred of my closest stampin' friends all weekend! Can't wait to share what we see (but don't hold your breath, we're sworn to secrecy until some time next week!)
