A whimsical invitation + latest downloads

One of the 6,589 things about MDS and My Digital Studio that I love the most is the freedom it provides you to really play around with different ideas and styles.

A couple of months ago, my lovely sis-in-law asked if I'd be able to help out in creating an invitation for her Uncle's 60th birthday.  Always happy to have an opportunity to play around with my new favourite computer application, but very aware that my current go-to style of choice being vintagey, floral and girly wasn't going to cut it for an invitation for a 60 year old potato farmer, I had a challenge on my hands...

The only thing I had to work with was a photo that was part of the Smith's campaign a few years ago, where Uncle's photo was printed on the back of packets in recognition of the family farm being a local supplier of potatoes for the chips.

This sparked an idea for a newsprint style layout, which subsequently grew wings and turned into the resulting invitation above.

The existence of a cute tractor stamp from the On the Go digital stamp set (one of many included in the MDS software) helped the theme along, as did my fascination with all things font and typography related.

By all reports, Uncle was a big fan of his invitation :-D

This week's new download offering is nudging us gently towards all things festive, with a couple of Christmas stamp sets and this adorable daggy sweater card template...

Is it just me, or does this download bring to mind a certain awkward movie scene...

Daggy sweaters and Mr Darcy aside, make sure to check out all of this week's fun new downloads...
