Happy Birthday to Sandii!

sandii bdayMy friend Sandii's birthday was actually aaaages ago, but with the hustle and bustle of life in recent times, I am only just getting her card up here to share!

And just in time too as I have used the oh so lovely set Easy Elegance from the Summer Mini, which I have SO enjoyed playing with!  It wasn't one of my absolute must haves from the mini, but I decided to get it anyway as it is SUCH a gorgeous set to use and SO versatile!  I have some other cards that I have made with it that illustrate this versatility beautifully, but I couldn't get a good photo of them and I gave them to my last workshop hostess (hi Meaghan!!) so will have to either post the dodgy ones or remake them.  I'll decide THAT one later!

For this card I totally took my cue from the ribbon colours.  I absolutely LOVE this set of Ribbon Originals (Sweet Shop) and it is my most used set out of all of them.  Given that they are ALL retiring at the end of this month, I suppose I should start using them up!  I am a bit of a 'saver' when it comes to things like that - beautiful ribbons and ONLY 1.8m of each design...  better not use TOO much of it ie. some of the packs unopened in my drawer for MONTHS!  Takes me back to my paper collecting childhood!

But I digress...  For this card I used my Stampin' Write markers to colour the flowers and stamped them twice giving a slightly more washed out look for the second image.  The background is stamped with one of the spotty images from Itty Bitty Backgrounds.

sandii bday ribbon detailWith the ribbon, I wanted to do something a bit different, so I used my Word Window punch to punch a hole parallel to the edge of the card.  Then I threaded the ribbon through from the back, tied a knot of some of the thinner Sweet Shop ribbon around it and secured it at the back of the card stock strip with glue dots (or maybe sticky strip - it's so long ago, I can't actually remember!!)  Then I mounted the 'Enjoy your Day' greeting from the Riveting Level 1 hostess set above the punched hole with dimensionals punching out the flower that I stamped in a different colour and mounting that up again.  Lots of dimensionals going on here!  I was going to say lots of mounting but somehow that sounded wrong...

SO, colours used are Certainly Celery, Rose Red, Almost Amethyst and Apricot Appeal.  If you want to get you some of that ribbon, or anything from the retiring list for that matter, you'd better hurry.....
