A gift box for socks!

As promised yesterday, here is the project I made using the most challenging (for me) of all the colours in the Stampin’ Up! colour families.

Several of you guessed it, and a few of you appear to be similarly challenged by it..

It’s Glorious Green!

This colour is not only not in my comfort zone, it resides a goodly number of postcodes away.

And in all likelihood it would have remained unscathed in my cardstock shelf had the gift that I was packaging not contained that very colour, so in this case, my fear of using this extremely challenging colour was overidden by my penchant for all things matchy-matchy!

Here’s the gift box from the outside…

I think you can kind of make it out in the first picture that I actually embossed the stars onto the vellum lid.  The ink can take a while to dry on vellum, and being the impatient crafter that I am, decided to hasten the process, as well as improve the overall look as it turns out, by throwing on some clear embossing powder.

Here you can see the little set of three pairs of shoe/socks that I packaged inside.  The colours..?  Ballet Blue, Real Red and Glorious Green!

I just realised that you can’t actually see the green pair in there!  I must have subconsciously stuck them at the back behind the other two… ;-)

The little gift is for the head coach at my big girl’s gymnastics class who just had her first baby about a month ago.

Here is the matching card…

So you can see that although the Glorious Green is most definitely the accent colour rather than being front and centre, it’s most certainly there!

Baby steps people, baby steps… ;-)

Although I should have learned my lesson by now, out of interest, I asked for Tim’s impressions of the box.

His response…?

“Now that’s Christmassy!”

Dare I say that the glorious green looks (gulp) good too!

ROFL. I’m so sorry Sarah. When I saw the peek pic yesterday, I thought it was a Christmassy thing too! The sentiment “It’s a Boy” obviously makes it a baby thing, but without it, it would definitely be a Christmas box. I love the colour combo and the embossed stars! I have to learn how to make a box.

Wow, you’ve been posting non-stop, I haven’t even had a chance to comment on the previous 3 yet. My Glorious Green cardstock is the same, just a few punches made for the colour chart and files. The ink pad I have actually used though – just happened to be a perfect match to a playmat that my son had – I love matchy-matchy. I have had years of ribbing about my matchy-matchyness, especially when it came to my show pony who has matching rugs, bandages, saddle cloth, browband, etc. You get the picture.

I love what you’ve done – those little socks are so cute aren’t they

Oooohhhh now this is just full of GORGEOUSNESS isn’t it!!!!! Might I say you’ve done fabulously well overcoming your fear of Glorious Green!!! Come to think of it… I don’t believe I’ve used the GG cardstock myself…. hmmmm a challenge!!!! Always up for a challenge!!! ahahah. As for that gorgeous hubby of yours… well he is a BOY afterall… but you gotta love him.. he does indeed make me giggle.
Come to think of it… Shaney would’ve responded the same. Oooh I know I might just ask him to look at said GORGEOUS box and “The Leaf” and see what he says. I’ll be back soon with the response!!!

What’s with me and my novels lately!!! Gosh I best go and leave space for someone else!!

GORGEOUS.

Well!!!! Here goes the conversation:-

ME:- Shaney… what do you think this card looks like, do you think it looks Christmasey (you know EXACTLY what you asked Tim)

Shaney:- Um….no not really…(same as Tim)

ME:- What do you think it looks like then? (me probing)

Shaney:- Um… well it looks like some sort of “Garden” and Autumn Garden!!!…(I kid you not)…
So then I asked you don’t think it looks like a Leaf?…. he said… well … Sort of!!!!.
BOYS!!!!

OH, and then I asked the same question regarding the delightful little Baby Boy box you made
His response… wait for it…… Yep you’re guessing right…. ” NOw that looks like Christmas”…

Ah huh!!!! Do these boys know each other and are keeping it a secret!!! hahaha.

Great box. Must confess O also thought it was going to be a Christmas box from the sneak peak (could be cause I’ve been making Christmas cards & candles all day). Tim is a crack up!

Yep, I’m thinking a red box with blue ribbon might have been the go in hindsight….

Hey Sair – this is AWESOME!!! Absolutely love everything about it! Might I make a suggestion??? (or possibly more a challenge to young Tim!Lol)

I challenge Tim to sit down in your craft room, totally unassisted, and for him to come up with a one of a kind ‘Tim Chrismassy Creation!!!:) Come on Tim………….rise to the challenge, I know you can do it! lol

I’m not sure that I’m prepared to let him loose amongst my cardstock and inks, but he’s never been one to back away from a challenge… I shall pass it on and see what happens ;-)

Gorgeous present Sarah, so much thought and detail in it. Those little socks are just lovely. Your packaging and cards are as much of a gift as the gift itself. I know this from personal experience… which reminds me you’ve never posted the beautiful box and card you made me for my 60th birthday. I bet people would love to see them.

I had a look at Glorious Green and it’d scare me witless if I had to use it. My other scary one is Taken with Teal.

Hey do you have a suggestion box for classes? Because I’d love you to do a class on making boxes, ’specially with vellum lids. In fact I’d love just about any class you decided to do! xxx

Hehehehe, such a cute box…..and errr, sooo sorry but, without the sentiment, ummmm, ahhhhhh, errrrrr……. hehehehe :D And my glorious green, well, I only seem to find use for a background colour FOR christmas style stuff, oh, or for grass *lol* You know, the pre-water restrictions type grass……..hard to remember I know but grass WAS once green, so gloriously so *LOL!*
