A challenge within a challenge…

One of the best things about being a demonstrator, and particularly a Manager or above in the Career Plan, is that every year at convention, there is a special event put on just for us.  We get to hang out with Shelli in close quarters, eat yummy food and historically, there has always been a lovely little takeaway at the end, consisting of a new stamp set and another gorgeous little gift.

This year’s stamp set was Blooming with Kindness, and although it’s not a stamp set that would have been at the top of my must have list, I’ve been determined to give it a red-hot go this past week, have thoroughly enjoyed doing so and even rather love everything that I have managed to create with it thus far…

The “challenge within a challenge” reference in the title refers both to the challenge of using a stamp set that I didn’t choose for myself and also the current weekly challenge at a blog that I discovered recently – Sunny Challenges.

Here is my card…

And here is the challenge that was set, to use the following sketch with a colour scheme of just black and white…

This is actually the third card that I made with this set these past couple of days – I will share the others soon too – and for your viewing pleasure, here is the set in its entirety:

The perfect combination of beautiful image and lovely sentiments in a pretty font, wouldn’t you agree…?

SARAH’S STAMPIN’ TIPS:

  • Sometimes the best background stamp isn’t a Background stamp! On the top portion of this card, I randomly stamped several images from the Daydream Medallions stamp set in Versamark and embossed them with White Embossing Powder for a pretty but subtle effect that didn’t overshadow the main image (it’s a bit hard to see in the photo’s, try as I did to get a good shot of this effect!  I think you can see it a bit better in the first, closer up photo or if you click on the main picture, you get to see it slightly larger…)
  • If scallop edge ribbon is your thing, but polka dots don’t quite fit the theme of your card, simply turn your Scallop Dots Ribbon over and use the back
  • Add great texture and interest by layering two different ribbons together

Got any questions about today’s card or any techniques or products used?  Or perhaps you’re after some information on how you could attend a Managers’ Reception…  Either way, simply contact me – I’d be happy to answer your queries :-)

Beautiful card Sarah, i love your subtle embossing for your background. This set made it onto my wishlist because of the sentiments that go with it, but now I am thinking the flower is lovely too.

This is really beautiful Sarah. The focal image is great and your subtle embossing on the white card is beautiful. Thanks for joining us at Sunny Challenges and Creations this week.

Beautiful, Sarah! I’m so glad you could join us at Sunny Challenges & Creations this week; I just love what you’ve done with your new stamp sets. The white-embossed images on the white panel are a gorgeous, subtle, touch. I love that flower stamp, but wouldn’t have thought to stamp it in black. Very elegant :)

Hi Sar, I didn’t like this stamp set when I first saw it, but once I saw cards using it I fell in love. Hopefully it will arrive soon. Lots of my SU favs aren’t the ones I liked at first sight.
Lovely take on the sketch too.
